New Music: Jordin Sparks, Gomez, Matthew Ryan, Joshua Radin …
Ok, this going to be a lot, so I’ll just jump right at it:
Jordin Sparks:
I just stumbled across her on iTunes. When I read the official review I first thought the album would be complete rubbish, but that just shows that not everyone at Apple does have a taste when it comes to music (though, in general, their music choices are really cool). Anyway, I listened to all the previews and in the end I decided to go for the Deluxe version of the album, because I liked the extra songs so much. Usually I only buy certain songs I like, but I had to have the whole album. It’s a really nice mix of different styles of music. My favs are “Just for the record“, “Save me” and “Tattoo“. But I really like the whole album.
Dr. House: Yeah, I know, it’s a tv show, but it features some excellent music. One song I liked is “See the world” (from the album How we operate, how fitting ;)) by Gomez. Just listen to it, it will lift your mood up instantly. Something more quiet and thoughtful is “Rainy Day Lament” by Joe Purdy. When you buy the song from iTunes, there’s a version that’s almost 10 minutes long and it’s actually two songs. Just a hint.
A really typical Dr. House-sound is presented by Zero 7 with their song “In the waiting line“; just listen to the first 10-20 seconds and you’ll know instantly it’s House. For a complete reference to the music played in the House episodes, head over to this excellent site, it’s my House music bible.
Matthew Ryan: This one I actually also discovered through House, but it’s so great I wanted it to be mentioned separately – “Follow the leader“. Absolutely awesome. For the quiet moments; it touched me quite a bit and the moment I listened to it the first time after I bought it from iTunes, pictures sprang into my mind and out came this wallpaper.
Elliot Yamin: His single, “Wait for you” … I just love it. I like the beat, I like his voice, especially when he puts in all his emotions … worth checking out.
Jack Johnson: I don’t really like his new album, it’s a little too moody for my taste, but this song I like – “Upside Down“.
OneRepublic: Oh, how I like their music! I love it and was thrilled to discover their new EP “Stop and Stare” on iTunes, featuring two new songs. “Last Goodbye” is quite nice once you get over the intro; “Too Easy” is quieter, but there are some parts in it I am not too fancy about. Overall, it’s ok, but I like the songs from the album much better.
Joshua Radin:
THE discovery, for me. I had never heard of him before, but this album cover sprang into my face every time I visited the iTunes store the last couple of days. The picture was tiny, but his looks reminded me of the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. For real, look at pics of both of them, they do look alike somehow. Anyway, the EP by Joshua Radin is called “Unclear Sky” and it is just beautiful. Very quiet, very melodic, very nice lyrics. I wish I could buy more of his music, but I can’t afford it right now. But as soon as I can, I will buy all of his albums from iTunes because his music is great, I strongly recommend it.
