Anniversary no more
Anniversaries can be a really beautiful thing. You can celebrate a special occasion with the people dearest to you and you take those memories with you, some of them last for life. But no one ever really talks about when an anniversary suddenly is no reason to celebrate anymore.
Like the day you met the love of your life, say, seven years ago. But since that relationship is no more, there’s no more reason to celebrate and – more importantly – no one you could celebrate it with. While it can be a simple matter not to mark the day in your planner, it is a lot harder not to think about it.
I think it was Cecilia Ahern in her wonderful book P.S. I love you who said that after we lose someone, we have to go through at least one year without that person; through all the holidays, all the birthdays, all the special dates – on our own. No one said this would be harder than leaving in the first place.
