“I kept the memory of you”
(Quote: Lyta Alexander, Babylon 5, »Divided Loyalties«)
After a long absence I visited the moderated Babylon 5 newsgroup over at Google again yesterday and promptly came across an article that was touching and elevating at the same time:
Eleven Babylon 5 fans pooled their resources together in December 2006 and purchased – via eBay – a G’Kar mask mounted on a lifemask of Andreas Katsulas. The goal of those fans, who each contributed at least $125, was to preserve the mask for other fans and donate it to a museum instead of having it disappear into a private collection.
Now, two years later, the two pieces have finally found a new home in the Museum of the Moving Image.
Thanks to the fans that made that possible. I can’t even say I am surprised about this. After all, Babylon 5 is one of the best sci-fi shows ever and there are many, many loyal fans out there, but it is still a fantastic gesture.
This fan-effort is even more moveable because it is also a tribute to the late actor Andreas Katsulas, who – in my humble opinion – was the not just the best character of the Babylon 5 universe, but also delivered an astonishing and often times mind-blowing performance throughout the whole show.
