Don S. Davis – See you on the other side of the gate
With great sorrow I have learned today [1/2/3] that actor, professor and artist Don S. Davis of Aurora, Missouri (USA) has passed away on June 29, 2008. Don Davis was 65 years old.
News reports indicate that Mr Davis died of a massive heart attack and that he has had health problems for the last couple of years. He died in his home in Gibsons, British Columbia (Canada).
Most fans will remember Mr Davis from his appearances in »Twin Peaks«, »Mac Gyver« and his major role of General Hammond in »Stargate SG1« where he also starred together with Richard Dean Anderson.
He leaves behind his wife Ruby and a son from a previous marriage.

“Can I come back?”
“No. This journey has ended. Another begins. Time .. to rest now.”
Lorien & John Sheridan, Babylon 5, »Sleeping in Light«

It is true that Don Davis also appeared in “MacGyver”, but he was only a stunt double. You must not confuse him with Dana Elcar who played Pete Thornton of the Phoenix Foundation.
Anyway, rest in peace, Don! :)

Actually, Don appeared in two episodes of MacGyver.

I heard it monday or so, couldn’t believe it. Kinda like the whole Heath Ledger thing :-(
I read a few days ago that Don S. Davis actually stunt-doubled Dana Elcar. Two of my favorite TV Shows as a Teenager connected – cool.

I didn’t know that Don played some minor roles in two MacGyver episodes. I only knew about his work as a stunt double. But then again, I’m no MacGyver expert.
However, I guess these roles are not what he will be remembered for.

Matthias and I have discussed the »MacGyver« issue via email and I just wanted to say that it really may appear (through my wording) that I confused Don Davis with Dana Elcar.
This is not the case however (I did confuse them once, when I started to watch »SG1« and thought the character Hammond was played by Elcar. The credits made me realize my mistake.).
But, being the »MacGyver« fan that I am I remembered Davis from the show and maybe my enthusiasm made me phrase that particular sentence in a confusing fashion. Sorry for that.
BTW, anyone in or near Dresden who owns »MacGyver« on DVD and is willing to lent it to me for watching? ;)
