Movies: Regarding Henry

30 August 2008 411 views No Comment

The first time I actually bought a DVD in a long time and I decided to finally watch one of my favorite movies in English.

Regarding Henry

Henry, a power hungry lawyer without a conscience, survives a shooting - only to loose his memory and his ability to walk and talk. Painstakingly he finds his way back, only to realize that he doesn't want to be who he was.

My comment:
This is one of my all time favorite movies and one of the reasons I am such a huge Harrison Ford fan. His portrayal of Henry is fantastic, and Annette Bening excels in her part as the wife who has to hold the family together and master her grief over the broken husband. Even Mikki Allen, who plays the couples daughter Rachel, does a wonderful job.

This movie doesn't have huge action sequences or hot sex scenes ... it convinces by following the lives of three people very quietly and showing how one event can change everything. Admittedly, the cutting between scenes is sometimes rather crude, but it somehow also underlines the fragile nature of the characters and their emotional state.

Highly recommended.

If you get the chance, you should also check out the soundtrack. Back in the nineties, I even bought it on tape. It wonderfully soothing and makes for a nice chill out music.
