College over. Treat time.

Finally, after years and years, college is finally over. This Wednesday at 10.30 am I took the last of my final exams (and sucked, but who cares now) and passed. On my way out of the building I dumped my review papers into the trash bin, wearing a slightly insane grin on my face ;)
My mom permanently damaged ear drum when she screamed in the phone when I told her that her daughter now has joined the ranks of academics. And my colleagues showed up in  surprisingly large numbers to …

PASSED. HAPPY. PARTYING!
+++++++++++++++++
Alright, I am nervous beyond description – today is my (hopefully) very last exam and today by 11:05 am I should forever be done with college.
I am scared out of my mind, as usual I feel completely unprepared and I keep worrying that I might fail this last one – that would not only be terrible inconvenient, but also embarrassing. My colleagues are waiting for me at work to show up with the champagne, my friends are sitting by their cell phones waiting for a SMS to let them …

VideoDrive: And miracles happen with iTunes

Everyone who uses iTunes might have despaired at least once about the limitations that this wonderful piece of software burdens us with: namely, the limitation to only some very specific video formats.
The following solution is for Mac users ONLY! Sorry, Windows guys (Possible solution … and now don’t bash me :D ). The goal is to be able to play  .avi, .mkv and that sort of files from within iTunes (without the need to convert them) and thereby access them via Front Row.
iTunes plays whatever QuickTime supports [see list of formats supported]. …

Beautifying iTunes

Okay, I assume you have all your video and music files imported into iTunes, maybe even with the help of VideoDrive.
Now you might still be dissatisfied with the looks of your library. VideoDrive utilized Amazon for cover art, but their images are often not very pretty. So here are some resources you can exploit to make your iTunes look stunning:

This forum thread at macrumors features some self-created artwork which is absolutely stunning. Best: you don’t need to register to access the images. Thanks to all those creative people for sharing!

Acoustic Pleasures (3)

It’s time again to do your ears some good so hear are my recommendations for this week:
First off is “My Day So Far” by John Powell from the Motion Picture Soundtrack “Jumper”. While movie itself (starring Hayden Christiansen) is boring to the point of sleep inducing, the very first track that is played when the movie opens is pretty cool, especially the first 10-20 seconds. Luckily, iTunes could still my thirst for this track immediately. [iTunes Link]
Next are two songs by one of my favorite bands, Lifehouse. I thought …

In Memory Still Bright…

Seven years ago a couple of men (with a larger organization behind them) and three planes changed the course of history – not just of politics, but of our definition of security, humanity, and tolerance.
‘If you can create sufficient fear in your enemies, you may not have to fight them. Always remember that terror is also a form of communication.’
- Delenn, Babylon 5, »The Paragon of Animals«
While one may debate the outcome on US politics, one cannot deny that the terrorists reached their goal: they planted fear so deep inside …

Sick as a dog

Yep. That’s me. Figures. Just after I have some revelations about the beauty of life, it turns on me and makes me feel like [insert favorite swear word].
Yesterday I rode my bike to work and when I arrived, I almost collapsed, feeling sick to my stomach, dizzy and utterly exhausted. After some complimentary comments by my colleagues (”You look like the stuff in the air sickness bags on planes”), I decided to go home. I couldn’t concentrate anyway and I didn’t want to infect anyone else. When I did my …

Life is Beautiful

Beware, this is going to be long. Go, grab a cocktail or a glass of wine and then come back and read.
“All around us, it was as if the universe were holding its breath, waiting. All of life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments .. of revelation. This had the feeling of both.
G’Quan wrote: ‘There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, …
