Battlest…OMG!

Holy frak!  Guys – tschilai, Batch and klti, please feel addressed - how could you do that to me? Okay, so Batch called me the “Avoider of final episodes” … and rightly so! My sub-conscious knows what it’s doing (even without hearing music!).

SPOILERS FOR BSG SEASON 4 EPISODE 10 REVELATIONS AHEAD

‘Finally watch those two last episodes of BSG’, they tell me. And now I did … I am completely blown and to be honest: if I’d known how amazing those two shows are, I’d have watched them a lot earlier. But, as my fear of finals (or, in this case: almost finals) goes – I was right too. True, I might have gotten watery eyes as the fleet finally came out of the jump just on top of Earth and everyone couldn’t believe their luck. That was an awesome moment. Following the fleets journey through the vastness of space and sometimes really doubting they would make it (I take episodes for what they are, I usually don’t speculate ahead) was paying off now in a really emotional moment.

But at the same time I was confused since this was to my knowledge in the midst of the fourth season – what would they do during the other half (which some studio executives chose to keep from us in a flash of group madness)? Well, of course, a happy end would have been too much to ask, right?

“It’s a good thing I’m russian, we’re used to hopeless situations.”
- Cmdr. Ivanova, Babylon 5, »A voice in the wilderness, Part 2«

I am only half russian, but the end of the episode did NOT really lift my spirits. I am on the proverbial edge of the seat and die to know how the story continues. Before, it was blissful ignorance. Now I have to endure restless curiosity until the fraking midst of January 2009. I was better off before! You three guys owe me big time!

On a rather different note: It was kind of weird to watch the actors now after I had seen some of them during FedCon early this year. I couldn’t stop thinking of how much Mary McDonnell is so much nicer, warmer and funnier than Roslin. The difference is really striking and I wonder how hard it is to portray a character that dark if you yourself are nothing like it. To watch Jamie Bamber was fun as well; he comes across a lot more determined and energetic on screen than he seemed in real life where he appeared to be very, very nice but rather modest and shy (I don’t need to mention good looking). Right now I hope very much that I will have the chance to go to FedCon next year, not just because of Jerry “Mr Garibaldi” Doyle, but also to see James Callis (Balthar) and Edward James Olmos (Adama). This could be a lot of fun as well.

For the record, pictures of the BSG cast and other FedCon guests can be found in my Photography section.

I’m WAY too curious to have an episode siting around unwatched for that long, especially if its a semi-finale of one of my fav shows. I’m not so much for self-punishment. ;-)

At least you only have to wait 3 months until there are some answers given.

Finally! Now you’re officially allowed to get here :)

You really see Roslin as a dark character? Interesting. I actually got the impression she had gotten a lot softer in S4, and especially these last two episodes. Okay, cancer and all that doesn’t really lend itself to being “nice, warm and funny”, but I really wouldn’t call her character dark.

Not yet, anyway, we’ll see what happens when she is revealed as the Final One ;)

Oh, I will be granted entrance now into your sanctuary solely based on the fact that I finished watching BSG? Me thinks I am going to visit some real geeks :D

About being dark … not dark in a bad sense, but dark like: without compromise, hard, efficient but not feeling (ok, the last episode corrected that very much). But overall, she (Roslin) is – and has to be – extremely determined and willing to go to all length to reach the goal of finding Earth and that transforms her from the rather innocent and very human woman she was in the pilot to a sometimes very cold and kick-ass politician.
