Starstuff – Car = Sad

11 December 2008 351 views 9 Comments

Well, now it happened. The thing I had been dreading for the past couple of months. I had to return my car.

“The universe puts us into places where we can learn. They are never easy places, but they are right.”
- Delenn, Babylon 5, »A Distant Star«

Though, technically, it wasn’t even my car. I paid for the insurance and tax for this year, as well as for the gas and got to drive it. But with the year drawing to a close and my employment situation being as uncertain as it ever was, I had to consider if I could even afford a car next year. The truthful answer was: no. But then my parents said they’d help me out there (even though I didn’t want that since I want them to spend their money on stuff they need).

To make a long story short, everything went wrong with the owner of the car (why doesn’t that surprise me), I ended up being reminded that my communication skills are sh*t and it was all my fault, that I was not trustworthy but very stubborn (because I refused to pay more than the car was worth).

That really sweetened my days yesterday and today and caused me real stomach pain because I was so angry and disappointed. So today I came home, drove one last time to the store and got 80 kilograms (about 160 pounds) of cat litter (I don’t want to carry that stuff on the bus, it’s heavy!!!), then cleaned the car of my belongings and parked it in front of the owner’s house.

And that is it. I am stranded now. No way of just hopping in the car and get larger items from the store. No spontaneous visits to my parents. Almost no way of visiting my friends who live out of town. Even though this decision will help me in the long run with my anger management problems, it makes me feel really bad right now. And here goes my stomach pain again. *sigh*

The only way to deal with this right now is to watch a full disc of B5, finalize some applications to keep my mind busy and continue to include this unpleasant experience in my NaNo story. I’ve already been writing three pages on my iPod touch on the tram rides yesterday and today.

“Whatever it is, Mr. Garibaldi, it can’t be that bad.”

I kinda know the feeling. In my case I was technically not without a car, but I had broken the arm and could not drive.

It takes a while to get used to, but of course I could afford a taxi when I had to go. In the beginning there was no way I could have used public transportation.

Good luck with living without the convenience.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am still mightily p…unhappy. Oh well, at least that means my parents will give me something else for christmas … maybe my favorite tea?

Here’s an idea – move to Berlin. No need for a car here ;)

Give your flat mate a serious look and tell him to send me that special address so I can start applying for jobs in Berlin.

Thats what I love about big cities – no need for a own car. And using public transportation is better for the environment anyway :-P

Well, just to get the record straight: Dresden is no small city! We have very good public transportation as well, some of it available all through the night. So, technically, it’s not hard to move around. Of course, it’s not as convenient as using a car. But once you need to move out of the town, to places where there is no train station, things get murky and that’s exactly what I am facing with my friends.

    Oh well …

Hey, get a small wheel-kart! I have one that folds up, I use it to tote my music and instruments when I have a long way to walk at festivals or shows. That would be perfect for carrying the cat litter and then whatever will fit on top of that. It’s just an idea. Good luck ;)

That’s just because it’s a good idea. Besides we’ve got to do something to keep raising the synchronicity levels ;)
