…for I have sinned

I don’t know how it happened. One day there is no iMac on my desk, and on the other day there is. I remember walking into Cyberport, and I remember walking out, carrying a huge box, but everything in between is a little fuzzy. I think somewhere in between there was a cute and nice sales clerk talking to me.
The result of that blurred expedition: a shiny new iMac 20″ Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz, 250GB hard drive and 4GB Ram. It’s beautiful. It’s fast. I like it.
Granted, I had my usual …

New Dawn for Fight Against Climate Crisis

Fossil fuel or Bio Gas? by www.seppo.net
President Barack Obama hasn’t even been in office for one whole week and he already issued policies and implemented changes that seemed completely impossible under former president Bush. He ordered the closing of Guantanamo and other prisons (sources: NY Times / Executive Order), thereby delivering on one of his most important campaign promises, and the immediate end of torture as an accepted interrogation technique (Executive Order) –  it’s incredible that within less than 7 days after the departure of Bush jr. from Washington, D.C., …

Even as an atheist, I found this deeply inspiring because even though it mentions god, this speech is about humanity and dignity (and humor). Here is the transcript of the inauguration benediction by Rev. Lowery, source Suntimes. (highlights by me)
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who has brought us thus far along the way, thou who has by thy might led us into the light, keep us forever in the path, we pray, lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met …

Wake me up, when September ends / Live blogging the inauguration

Hello World.  At 11:30 am EST this will be your wake up call.
Not everything will change today. The grass won’t become greener, the sky won’t change to a clearer blue. Peace won’t break out around the globe and people will not suddenly change and become better.
But there’s hope. Today, after eight long, dark years Barack Obama will relieve George W. Bush of his presidential duties and assume the highest political office there is on the globe (no need arguing that). He won’t be able to change things in the …

BSG – Catch the Frak Up!

Every BSG fan who’s been gnawing at his or her fingernails since last year, hold on to your hats! Check out this hilarious – and I really mean it – clip that will help you catch up and remember what happened before the show went into hiatus (I still wish harm on the executives who decided to leave us hanging in midair like this). But beware – you’ll probably need an oxygen infusion afterwards. It’s absolutely hysterical!

Stargate Atlantis Finale … slightly unsatisfying

All good things come to an end … and now another one of my fav TV shows has come full circle and aired its final episode. With “Enemy at the Gate” Stargate Atlantis, spin-off to the immensely successful Stargate SG1, ended this Friday.
Contrary to my usual reluctance to watch final episodes (because, then, the show really is over. Once seen you can never have that tingling of not knowing how things might turn out.) I sat down today with great expectations. Unfortunately, they were not met.

Babylon 5 Calendar for 2009

++++++++++++++++++Download: Babylon 5 Calendar 2009 (.zip archive, 17.1MB)+++++++++++++++++
Attention all B5 fans out there: here’s a 12-page calendar for 2009 for you to download and print out. NOTE: The calendar will up for download on Monday, 5th January, because I want to provide you with the nice, high resolution version which, for all 12 months, mounts up to 17MB. Due to my insanely slow internet connection I have no chance whatsoever to upload it from home so it will have to wait until next week.
Just thought I’d let you know ahead of …

As a child I never understood it when adults said ‘Time flies’. Being an adult myself now for quite some time, I understand that idiom much better now. So much has happened in the past 12 months, it’s hard to believe that 2008 is already over.
The new year is now almost 13 hours old and I am both surprised and proud at how I feel. Last year at the same time, I was facing an enormous amount of emotional challenges to overcome and deal with. If someone would have told …
