Surfing the net with closed eyes – almost

23 March 2009 259 views 7 Comments

Sheesh. It’s Monday after the final episode of »Battlestar Galactica« aired and I am trying desperately not to get spoilered – as probably every non-US series fan.

I got my first shock on Saturday morning as I went to the NY Times website for my morning fix of news. What was jumping right at me? A picture of Baltar and Caprica Six! You won’t believe how fast I closed that site. Cmd-W has never been so helpful.

Visiting the forums I read regularly has been challenging as well. Through half closed eyes I squint at the headlines and recent posts, praying that if anyone is talking about the finale, they will at least not spoiler anyone right in the heading. So far, I’ve been lucky, probably because I have strictly avoided certain sections of the forums. I didn’t expect a post on the moderated B5 newsgroup though – made me close that window rather fast as well. And the newsreader … dangerous!

What almost got me was the accidental visit (sorry, klti!) to a friend’s blog today. I just needed to test my internet connection on my iPod at work and I picked his site from my bookmarks. As I stared at the site loading, suddenly a headline with ‘BSG’ in it appeared. It almost made me throw away my iPod in surprise!

So, it’s time it is Tuesday, because then I’ll do a sort of group watch of the finale with friends. Three hundred kilometers apart, but hey -

    Hi babylonlurker,

a couple of weeks ago the organizers announced that there were again free rooms (might have to share with somebody). For questions, try this address: verwaltung (at) fedcon.de
You can write in English, they are fluent (big surprise). The team is really, really nice and usually responds fast (it may take a while now, though, since the con is drawing nearer and they only have one full time employee and she is really busy with all that stuff).

In any case, you can check the forum at http://www.ostfc.de/board. There is a subthread called: “Ticket-Tauschbörse FedCon” where people offer their rooms if they can’t make it or look for room mates.

You can ask in English, most people understand it. If you need any specific help, you can email me as well for translation help.

It would be great if you could make it, I’d love meeting you in person. Maybe we can convince Jarsto to join us? :D

Well – if there is one thing I don *not* it is sharing a room – even with people I know fairly well. I need my sleep alone…

Jarsto has not yet decided, I saw him on Sunday – we had a mini (micro) FPM con at my place.

Decision has to be in the week end, or I suspect it will be too late. I might try contacting the Maritim hotel directly as well.

    possibly “be seeing you….”

PS Deutsch ist kein grosses Problem für mich, nur das Problem mit MIschung mit Niederländisch.

Oh cool! Dann können wir auf der Con ja Deutsch sprechen, wenn wir uns sehen :D

So, you guys were having a FarPoint Media mini con at your place? Do you have a pool? Wehn listening to the Babylon Podcast and the crew is meeting over there, they always seem to have a pool :D (Of course, one could argue that the whole of Netherlands is … uhm, never mind  )

Hihi, while reading, I just visualized you throwing away your iPod and your cat running away to not get hit by it. Kinda fun to picture

But hey, I tried to keep the spoilers as fuzy as possible, so no real danger there, I hope

    No, not funny

And I haven’t read the entry yet; I pressed the Home button frantically to close Safari on the iPod and haven’t opened it up since :D
