Walter Cronkite – A Legend Signs Off Forever
I wish my first post after my return from vacation could be something other than mourning the death of a legend. But today Walter Cronkite, legendary US TV anchorman, passed away.
For me as a journalism graduate, Walter Cronkite was of course known and we studied his style of reporting, the influence it had and above all the influence he himself had on the world he covered in his news for decades. I know that in the US, most everybody knew who he was, even though he had retired from television long ago. I don’t know how well known he was in the rest of the world, but I think as a pioneer of the TV news era his legacy will live on.
The NY Times has summarized his extraordinary career far more eloquently than I could and if you have a moment to spare, I recommend the read. In addition, CBS has put together a wonderful short tribute to Mr Cronkite.
“That’s the way it is.”
- Walter Cronkite, 1916-2009

Thank you for educating me. I had never even heard of Walter Cronkite before, but then again I don’t have any journalism background whatsoever. Sounds like he was an extraordinary person and is still a role model for quite a few journalists.
