Recently I discovered a music site called Magnatune through a blogpost on WWdN:Exile (Wil Wheaton dot Net in Exile). This site is just awesome - you can listen to all the music for free, to begin with. You don’t have to put up with some low-quality-20-second snippet, you can listen to complete songs and thereby decide whether you like it or not.

I just discovered that MTV offers free music downloads. You can check out the available songs here.
The songs are in the .mp3 format and have a bitrate of 128 kbps (not great, really, but after all it’s free!). You need to do some tagging after importing them into iTunes, but then you can dowload the cover art as well.
