Follow up: BSG @ the United Nations

If you’ve been reading my blog regularly, you know that I wrote a number of entries about the appearance of Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Donald Eick and Ronald Moore (all of Battlestar Galactica) at the United Nations. I was impressed by the fact that an influential and important body as the UN would invite actors and writers/producers of a sci-fi show to speak about current political topics and human rights issues.
Edward James Olmos gives an emotional speech about the shortcomings of the distinction of “race”

iTunes Art

If you are like me and are a little fanatic when it comes to beautifying your iTunes library, you might find my iTunes covers interesting. My main objective is to make different seasons of shows more distinguishable, therefore I put season numbering on the covers. Which character I put there is totally arbitrary, though, and completely my taste. No deeper meaning behind it. Enjoy, and if you want a cover for a specific show done, just write me.

FedCon 18 (2009) – The Billingsleys. Pants are over rated (6)

First off one or two warnings: a) this report will feature men without pants (yes, I am using the plural for a reason) and b) it will be more like a picture story. No real, deep content here. For my German readers: much like a BILD special issue
John Billingsley, to us scifi geeks best known as Dr. Phlox of Enterprise, had already made himself stand out from the other actors during the opening ceremony. He came out on stage, wearing a black shirt with Marc B. Lee’s …

Movie Review: Star Trek

‘Highly anticipated, mostly dreaded.’
That pretty much sums up how I felt about the movie since it was announced. I am not a Trekkie, but I love Star Trek since it was my first contact with the genre of science fiction. The original Trek and the re-imagination with Scott Bakula as Captain Archer are my favorite Treks.
And then I was seeing the first screen shots from the new picture, with all those kids that vaguely resembled the original crew. My first impression was: “Oh my Kosh, it’s kindergarden in space!” I …

Today I am way too tired for a full fledged report and I really want to do John Billingsley justice, so I decided to share two of my geek moments with you that also have to do with FedCon.
While sifting through my photos during the weekend, faithfully tagging all of them so I won’t get totally lost, I suddenly realized what my most used keywords were at that moment:

Keywords in Adobe Lightroom
Now, how cool is that? Usually I see only rather boring keywords like ’sunset’, ‘dresden’, ‘flower’, or ‘macro’. Having the …

FedCon 18 – Nichelle Nichols, the grand dame of Star Trek (5)

It was another highlight in the succession of panels Friday night at FedCon 18. Despite her almost 80 years of age, Nichelle Nichols who played Lt. Uhura in the original Star Trek incarnation, came to Bonn, Germany.
After being greeted with a four minute standing ovation during the opening ceremony, she received another heartfelt and long welcome from the assembled fans. After all, she is one of the last cast members of the original show. A show, if I may say so, that has changed the SciFi genre and made all …
