Follow up: BSG @ the United Nations

If you’ve been reading my blog regularly, you know that I wrote a number of entries about the appearance of Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Donald Eick and Ronald Moore (all of Battlestar Galactica) at the United Nations. I was impressed by the fact that an influential and important body as the UN would invite actors and writers/producers of a sci-fi show to speak about current political topics and human rights issues.

Can a TV show educate? BSG at the United Nations

Originally, I had written this article in the same week as the final episode of BSG aired. It was supposed to be published on another site, but that didn’t happen yet and so I decided, since I spent quite some time writing it, to publish it here.
Background Information: Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick (all of the new Battlestar Galactica) appeared on a panel at the United Nations in New York, where issues like torture, war, faith and many other things were discussed and the …

BSG – Great show, finale not so much

And that was the end of the story. For five years, I’ve been following Battlestar Galactica, sometimes breathlessly, sometimes annoyed, but always interested and during some extraordinary episodes regarding it even as a possible worthy successor to the Babylon 5 way of story telling.
With the last couple of episodes my expectations for the finale were running high. You have to understand: normally I avoid show finals. Why? Because once watched, the show really is over. There’s nothing left for the imagination (how might the arc of the story come to …

Sheesh. It’s Monday after the final episode of »Battlestar Galactica« aired and I am trying desperately not to get spoilered – as probably every non-US series fan.
I got my first shock on Saturday morning as I went to the NY Times website for my morning fix of news. What was jumping right at me? A picture of Baltar and Caprica Six! You won’t believe how fast I closed that site. Cmd-W has never been so helpful.
Visiting the forums I read regularly has been challenging as well. Through half closed eyes I …

BSG – Catch the Frak Up!

Every BSG fan who’s been gnawing at his or her fingernails since last year, hold on to your hats! Check out this hilarious – and I really mean it – clip that will help you catch up and remember what happened before the show went into hiatus (I still wish harm on the executives who decided to leave us hanging in midair like this). But beware – you’ll probably need an oxygen infusion afterwards. It’s absolutely hysterical!

Just in case you don’t snoop all my pages on a regular, say: daily, basis I wanted you guys to know there is a new category in my Pictures section named “Post-Con Wallpaper”.
And, as the name implies, you will find wallpaper with con impressions. It would be a shame not to put some of those photos to a good use. As usual, they are wide screen 1400×900 pixels, but if you need another resolution, just let me know.

Okay, spoiler for Battlestar Galactica (2003) ahead, from midseason 3! Mark with cursor to read.
Starbuck is dead?!? Hello? I just started to really, really like the show! Now Starbuck is dead? Without any warning! That’s not fair! I mean, yeah, she was having emotional trouble and so on, but did you have to kill her?
I am grumpy. Pissed. Frak!
