Today I am way too tired for a full fledged report and I really want to do John Billingsley justice, so I decided to share two of my geek moments with you that also have to do with FedCon.
While sifting through my photos during the weekend, faithfully tagging all of them so I won’t get totally lost, I suddenly realized what my most used keywords were at that moment:
Keywords in Adobe Lightroom
Now, how cool is that? Usually I see only rather boring keywords like ’sunset’, ‘dresden’, ‘flower’, or ‘macro’. Having the …

A little while ago I reviewed the app VideoDrive, which helped me to manage my 800+ TV show episodes. About a month ago the developer of a similar app, iFlicks, approached me via email and asked me to test out his application.
Needless to say, to have a dev ask me to do that honors me quite a bit and I promptly downloaded the app and gave it a swirl.
Result in a nutshell: for my day-to-day movie management I have switched to iFlicks. It suits some of my needs better than …

My mom permanently damaged ear drum when she screamed in the phone when I told her that her daughter now has joined the ranks of academics. And my colleagues showed up in surprisingly large numbers to …

Mac computers don’t play AC3 files natively so what to do? And how to add them to iTunes so you can sync them to your iPod or Mp3-player of choice?
First thing’s first: How to play those files? You need to download the A52 codec, that will enable Quicktime to play the files. Read the instructions in the »Readme«!
Now, I am running Mac OS Leopard and conversion did not work for me with mac3dec.1.6.3 – it worked fine under Tiger, but not anymore. Instead, I downloaded MpegStreamclip. Just load your AC3 …

Finally I have all the time I need to re-install all my essential applications and migrate my data.
As I wrote here, a very nice employee of Cyberport helped me backing up my data from my broken MacBook before sending it in for repairs. Thank godness he did, because the Mac was returned to me with a new logic board and a new hard drive.
Migrating Mails
This was on top of my priority list. Since I didn’t have a clone of my system, I could not use the migration assistant and had …

7 March – about 7pm
My Mac goes to sleep … and doesn’t wake anymore. Not matter what I try. P-Ram reset doesn’t help; the hardware test says everything is fine … so why does the MacBook only boot until the Apple logo and then refuse to do anything? I can’t boot from the DVD. That worries me. At the same time I am I oddly relieved: At least the Mac waited until after I finished my final thesis to break … some small comfort.

I get up early …
